Discover your creative talents. Experiment with digital media and test the latest virtual reality gear. Combine modern technology with traditional Māori art. Whakairo is the art of carving in wood, stone or bone. Create whakairo using 3D technology and a laser cutter.

What you will learn

  • Produce a media app for a communication device
  • Evaluate your app using Virtual Reality (VR) gear
  • Plan and present project work using digital media
  • Be introduced to Toi Māori cultural art and design
  • Recognise and observe tikanga (conventions) of whakairo in a range of media
  • Develop ideas and drawings for whakairo
  • Work with 3D technology and a laser cutter to create whakairo
  • Prepare for higher-level study

Course Schedule

Classes occur every Friday, for a total of five weeks.
